La Castanya releases the new Mrs Magician 7inch / La Castanya edita el nuevo 7 pulgadas de Mrs Magician

EN
We found out about Mrs Magician through John Reis (of Drive Like Jehu, Rocket from the Crypt and Hot Snakes fame and CEO at Swami Records), whose label released their first long player Strange Heaven, a record where 60’s pop choruses and melodies blend with surf music guitars and garage guitar blasts, all of it amalgamated with punk’s energy and blasphemy and some 80’s hardcore. After hard negotiations carried on either side of the Atlantic, La Castanya is happy to present the brand new Mrs Magician single. Produced by Reis himself, will be released by Swami in the USA and La Castanya in Europe, although with different songs on the B-side and different covers. On the A-side of our edition we have Eyes All Over Town, a garage-punk 60’s-80’s lash of monumental proportions, with classic power-pop and Paisley Underground band echoes. On the other side —the exclusive one!— we find Mrs Magician in a more laid back mode and in a tad more dark mood (maybe that’s got something to do with the title of the song?), as if the Three O’Clock had entered the studio together with members of The Sound and Chameleons as guest stars, opening their music to new sounds. You must hear what comes out of this!

La Castanya releases The Float, new record by Rebecca Gates and the Consortium / La Castanya edita The Float, nuevo disco de Rebecca Gates and The Consortium

We are glad to announce that Rebecca Gates is joining La Castanya family. We will release in Europe The Float, her forthcoming album, and we will handle the booking of her shows across the continent.

Rebecca Gates has been in the world of music for twenty years now and is recognized for being The Spinanes singer and songwriter, one of the most unique bands of the nineties. Sub Pop released their three albums and they toured with bands like Fugazi and Stereolab. Throughout her career Gates has always been involved in music and art and has collaborated with musicians such as Elliott Smith, Laetitia Sadier or Ted Leo and bands like The Decemberists and Joan Of Arc.

We had to wait eleven years, since the release of Ruby Series in 2001, to hear the new compositions of catchy pop music and post-rock arrangements that can be found in The Float (La Castanya / Parcematone / 12UX, 2012). The album has been recorded throughout the United States and features exceptional musicians like Doug McCombs (Tortoise), John McEntire (Tortoise, The Sea and Cake), Nate Query (The Decemberists), Joanna Bolme (Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Quasi), Thierry Amar (Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Silver Mt Zion), Rebecca Cole (Wild Flag), Gary Jarman (The Cribs), Joe Adamik (Califone) and Tim Rutili (Califone, Ugly Casanova) among others.

On stage, Rebecca surrounds herself with a unit called The Consortium, formed at different times by some of her best friends: Ji Tanzer (Blue Cranes), Joanna Bolme (The Jicks, Quasi), Rebecca Cole (Wild Flag), Nate Query (The Decemberists), Jenny Drizos (The Decemberists), Amy Domingues (Garland of Hours) or Dave Depper (Loch Lomond, Blue Giant).

The Float will be released in Europe by La Castanya on July 23, available on LP+MP3 and CD, and will be presented during an extensive tour. Below we offer you two songs that confirm that Rebecca Gates is a unique songwriter and performer.
